Acne can come out of nowhere, and can completely sabotage your biggest plans. Whether it’s your wedding day, a job interview, a hot date, or a vacation – acne can pop up and make you self-conscious and wishing you could cancel your plans. Instead of dreading your big plans, turn the tables and get rid of the blemish before it can wreak havoc and ruin your day. We’re going to go through 6 tried and true ways to minimize a blemish and heal it at lightning speed.

1. Don’t Stress

Since stress is known to lead to even more acne, panicking is the last thing you’ll want to do! The small pimple your worried about is likely hardly even visible to anyone else, and if you overthink things, it could lead you to popping the zit or picking at it which will only make it look much, much worse. Calmly assess the situation and don’t freak out – yet! There is hope!

2. Minimize Swelling

Apply an ice pack or ice cube to the infected area of your skin for 5-10 minutes to help reduce inflammation. By decreasing the swollenness around the blemish, it will also decrease the size of your spot and help it to heal quicker. Make sure your hands and ice pack are cleaned with soap and water before you touch your face with them.

3. Cleanse Your Skin

Before you treat your pimple, cleanse your skin to ensure no more bacteria clogs any of your other pores. Make sure you use a mild, gentle cleanser that won’t irritate your skin any further. Once your skin is cleansed, pat it dry with a clean, soft towel. Never use an exfoliator or rough scrub to wash skin with blemishes, the harshness of them can break open the zit and cause the infection to spread and can make the area more inflamed.

4. Spot Treat

Gently massage an acne spot treatment onto the pimple and let it dry. You can typically use a spot treatment twice daily. You don’t want to exceed that limit because spot treatments can really dry out your skin which will make it produce more oil, and you don’t want oily skin on your big day either!

Make sure your skin doesn’t become too dry from all the products you’ve used by applying a moisturizer to your entire face, neck, and decollate for good measure. Makeup goes on smoother to well moisturized skin so this step is quite important so you can get the most perfect pictures at your event. Also, water does the body good, so drink lots of water as well which is always great for the skin!

6. Conceal, Conceal, Conceal

When all else fails, use makeup to cover what imperfections you don’t want seen! We have an article that goes over step-by-step instructions, but in short, get a high quality, long-wearing concealer to cover your blemish. You’ll want to look for a product that is hypoallergenic and won’t clog your pores or irritate your pimple. You can also apply multiple layers of concealer as long as they are thin enough! Let each layer dry before applying the next.

The good news is acne is treatable and preventable. To steer clear of blemishes in the future, make sure you stick to your daily skin care routine and be sure that your body is getting enough of the right nutrients. If you aren’t typically a healthy eater, then it’s more important than ever for you to take a vitamin daily that will help ensure your body is functioning at its highest potential. Instead of doing damage control at your next event, think ahead and get your skin glowing weeks beforehand so you don’t even have to worry about it!
