With so many products out there to choose from, it really can be quite confusing on what to buy. And then all the reviews and opinions! Ohhhh, the opinions! It seems like everyone has something to say about just about everything these days and there’s 50 million reasons why you SHOULD buy something, and 50 million reasons why you SHOULDN’T. The digital age was supposed to make things simpler, wasn’t it?

Regardless, you’ve stumbled here because you’re looking for a rock star face wash, and it just so happens this is one of my *many* specialties. 😀 Since there is a bazillion face washes and options, I’m going to break it down and make this simple on you.

  1. Find the Best Cleanser for YOUR SKIN

This is important because you really want to choose something that is going to work best for you. Some people prefer a smooth, creamy facial cleanser because they are more moisturizing. Others, with oilier skin might find that to be too over-hydrating, and opt for a foam cleanser. First think about what type of skin you have – is it dry, oily or a combination of the two – and then find a product that addresses your skin type.

  1. Choose the Right TYPE of Cleanser

Another thing you’ll want to ask yourself – Are there any other skin problems I want to address while cleansing my skin? Sure washing your face works great for cleaning away any makeup, dirt and oil – but you may want to fight other skin issues at the same time. Do you have pores the size of a crater? Blackheads that could be mistaken as freckles? Or surface wrinkles that are making you look a little too much like your mom? These are all things that can be addressed with the proper product.

For example, if you struggle from acne, pimples or blackheads, you’ll want to pick a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser. You want a cleanser strong enough to wash your face clear of makeup and grime, but gentle enough to not irritate your already inflamed skin. Abrasive cleansers and scrubs are great for exfoliating off dead skin cells, but are not great for sore, red blemishes that are trying to heal. Never scrub a pimple or blemish too roughly because by doing so, it could break it open and take weeks to heal, and in the worst of cases, could lead to acne scarring.

It might take you several tries and purchases before you find the right cleanser and that’s okay. Be open to trying new products and changing up your routine because the technology behind your favorite skin care products is constantly improving. New ingredients become trendy and companies are constantly looking to improve their existing product lines.

Also, once you find a cleanser you love, use it religiously. So many times we buy products and they just sit in our drawer and we forget to use them in the busyness of everyday living.

*PRO TIPS* on Cleansing

We recommend cleansing your skin once daily to avoid over-drying it. And never, we repeat never, go to sleep with makeup on your face!

First, dampen your face, then massage your cleanser into your skin for 1-2 minutes. Let the product really lather and work into your skin before you rinse it clean so that the active ingredients have time to work their magic. When you rinse, don’t ever use a rough wash cloth. The wash cloth could further irritate your skin if you rub over existing blemishes with it. The best thing to do is just use your fingertips and splash water on your face until the soap is all gone. When you’re ready to dry your face, pat it dry with a clean towel. Never use the same towel on your face more than once.

And there you have it, you are now graduated to a Facial Cleansing Master – you’re welcome. 🙂
